Intrigue

The best part about shopping for tequilas in Mexico is the wide array that are not available in the States. The most extensive selection of these belongs to Tequila’s House with two locations. One conveniently located across the street from the Plaza Las Glorias on Marina Blvd.

You’ll find the long, pale blue triangular bottle of Oro Azul. Also, the long necked, hand blown bottle of Tres, Quatro, Cinco, a lovely—and expensive—anejo. Specialty bottles of Herradura Anejo, Cuervo’s Reserva de la Familia, and Don Julio Anejo can be purchased there, as well. Don’t forget the Cabo Wabo, either! In case you don’t know, rocker Sammy Hagar is considered a god in Cabo San Lucas, and his image can be seen everywhere holding up a bottle of his tasty reposado.

Miniature tequila bottles are popular with collectors, and Tequila’s House has them all: Casa Noble’s ceramic miniature bottle…Oro Azul…Don Julio…and even the hard to get Corralejo blue bottle mini. Also, the Cabo Wabo miniatures are at a premium now that Sammy and company have changed the look of the bottles. You might have to check on E-bay for those puppies!

If there is a tequila that intrigues you, but you’re afraid to purchase it because you’ve never experienced it before, ask for a taste. That’s right--ask!

Most of the better liquor stores have a bottle or two that is opened and the staff at Tequila’s House is more than willing to let you savor before you buy. Beware, however, that most of these opened bottles are in their freezers, and if you like your tequila at room temperature, the results may surprise you. (Later on, we’ll hear from a tequila expert on whether to chill or not to chill!)
